Known in France as 'La Femme de ménage', the psychological thriller has captivated audiences both in cinemas and now on streaming platforms. As reported by Collider, and based on data from Flixpatrol, the film has surpassed other popular titles to become the most-watched movie on HBO Max in the U.S. This achievement highlights the film's enduring appeal, even after its initial theatrical run in late 2025.

Directed by Paul Feig, known for 'A Simple Favor', 'The Maid' features Sydney Sweeney in the lead role of Millie. Millie is a young woman with a mysterious past, attempting to forge a new life by taking a job as a housemaid for the seemingly perfect Winchester family. However, she soon uncovers a web of dark secrets hidden behind the opulent facade of their luxurious home.

Sweeney is joined by a talented cast, including Amanda Seyfried as the enigmatic Nina Winchester and Brandon Sklenar as her husband, Andrew. Michele Morrone also rounds out the ensemble, adding to the film's intricate plot filled with manipulations and unexpected twists.

'The Maid' is an adaptation of a best-selling novel by Freida McFadden, a factor that undoubtedly contributed to its widespread appeal. The film proved to be a significant box office success, earning approximately $400 million globally against a modest budget of $35 million. In France alone, it drew 4.4 million moviegoers.

Capitalizing on this success, Lionsgate has already announced a sequel, titled 'The Maid's Secrets' (or 'Les Secrets de la femme de ménage' in French), which will also be based on Freida McFadden's popular novels. Sydney Sweeney is set to reprise her role as Millie, alongside Michele Morrone. New additions to the cast include Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow, and Stephen Kalyn, recently seen in 'Off Campus'. Paul Feig will also return to direct the follow-up, which is slated for a French theatrical release on December 15, 2027.

While 'The Maid' dominates HBO Max in the U.S., French audiences have been able to stream the film on Canal+ since September 4, 2026.
