Sony's updated calendar includes several tentpole films, with two major titles taking prime spots in late 2027. Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott is set to direct a new feature adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island, starring Hugh Jackman as the iconic Long John Silver, alongside Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper. This swashbuckling adventure, adapted by Jack Thorne, will sail into theaters on November 11, 2027. The story follows a young boy who discovers a map to a hidden fortune, leading him on a perilous sea voyage and into a deadly battle of wits with the charismatic pirate. Scott Free, Ridley Scott's production banner, is producing the film.

Following Treasure Island, the comedic trio of Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube will reunite for 24 Jump Street, scheduled for release on December 10, 2027. Rodney Rothman, known for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is at the helm, having co-written the script with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Neal H. Moritz, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller are among the producers for this anticipated sequel.

Beyond 2027, Sony also adjusted dates for other major productions and added new titles for 2025. The Justin Lin-directed Helldivers, based on the popular PlayStation game and starring Alan Ritchson, has been pushed from November 10, 2027, to a summer slot on June 9, 2028. This move is reportedly to allow Treasure Island to commence production first, securing the Veterans Day date, while Helldivers benefits from a prime summer release window. The film centers on an elite unit of soldiers battling alien threats to Super Earth.

Another significant shift sees Takashi Yamazaki's Bad Robot production, Grandgear, move from February 18, 2028, to an earlier Martin Luther King Jr. weekend slot on January 14, 2028.

For 2025, Sony has added The Surgeon, an action-thriller starring Michelle Yeoh, which the studio recently acquired at TIFF. Directed by Roshan Sethi, the film follows Yeoh as an expert surgeon who, after being abducted and forced to operate on a mysterious patient, uses her 35 years of surgical expertise to outwit her captors. The Surgeon is slated for release on April 2, 2025. Also joining the 2025 lineup is Narcs, a drama directed by John Phillips and starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright, set for August 20, 2025.

These comprehensive updates from Sony Pictures underscore a robust future slate, strategically positioning its tentpole releases and highly anticipated adaptations across a competitive cinematic landscape for the coming years.
