The project aims to bring the rich medieval fantasy realm of Gielinor to life for both its dedicated fanbase and a fresh audience. This move aligns with Jagex’s broader ambition to extend the "RuneScape" universe beyond its gaming roots. Jon Bellamy, CEO of Lyrical Animation, emphasized this vision at RuneFest, stating, "When we talk about the future of ‘RuneScape,’ we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways."
A key figure in this animated endeavor is Charlie White, known online as MoistCr1TiKaL, who will be involved through his production company, Meatier Productions. White’s connection to "RuneScape" runs deep, having been a player for over two decades and building a massive online following across various platforms. "I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it’s one of my favorite IPs ever," White shared, expressing his excitement for the project.
Lyrical Animation’s creative director, Daniel Dominguez, highlighted the game’s distinctive narrative style. "RuneScape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful," Dominguez remarked, adding that helping to bring this to life for millions of fans alongside White is "a dream come true."
First launched in 2001, "RuneScape" has evolved into one of the most enduring and popular fantasy MMORPGs, allowing players to explore, combat, and quest through its expansive world. The franchise now includes "RuneScape," "Old School RuneScape," and "RuneScape Dragonwilds." While development is still in its nascent stages, Lyrical Animation anticipates revealing more specific details about the series in 2027. This adaptation promises to be a significant milestone for the franchise, inviting a new generation to discover the magic of Gielinor.
