Teyonah Parris, whose career has seen a remarkable ascent with notable roles in Marvel's 'WandaVision' and Netflix's 'They Cloned Tyrone,' is poised for another significant step, securing a co-starring role alongside screen legend Denzel Washington. The highly anticipated film will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, a name synonymous with high-octane thrillers and intricate storytelling, particularly recognized for revitalizing the 'Mission: Impossible' series.
The untitled thriller is set to captivate audiences with a compelling premise. It centers on a former police detective who, after serving a life sentence, receives a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. Granted a compassionate release with only six months to live, he returns to a life he left behind – an estranged daughter and a grandson he has never met. His sole desire is to mend past wrongs and escape his dark history, but as the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that his past is far from done with him.
Parris's casting comes after an impressive audition, solidifying her position as a sought-after leading lady in Hollywood. Her recent filmography includes portraying Charmaine in Apple Original Films' 'Matchbox: The Movie,' sharing the screen with John Cena and Jessica Biel. She has also joined the cast of Gavin O’Connor’s upcoming drama 'Running' and is slated to star in 'Don’t Go Gentle,' a drama exploring themes of identity and legacy.
Christopher McQuarrie will not only direct but also produce the film alongside Heather McQuarrie. The production team also includes Stuber and Nick Nesbitt representing United Artists; Joseph Restaino for Hungry Bull Productions; Reza Moheet and Norman Aladjem for Mainstay Entertainment; Katia Washington; and Tommy Harper. Executive producers are Tony Stopperan from Hungry Bull, and Tim Honigman and Joe Guest from Mainstay. The screenplay for the thriller was penned by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner.
