The road to Quentin Tarantino's cinematic swansong has been marked by anticipation and evolving plans. For years, the director has publicly committed to a ten-film career, making his next project arguably the most scrutinized of his illustrious filmography.
Fans will recall that Tarantino had previously developed "The Movie Critic" as his tenth film, a project he ultimately abandoned in 2024. Despite having a script he reportedly loved, he revealed he no longer felt the passion to direct that particular story, leaving the slot for his final film open once more.
Since then, Tarantino has explored other creative avenues. He has reportedly penned a screenplay titled "The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth," hinting at a potential return to the world of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. More immediately, however, his attention has turned to the stage. Tarantino is set to direct a swashbuckling play, "The Popinjay Cavalier," starring Sacha Baron Cohen, which is slated to open in London next year.
During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the director was inevitably pressed for an update on his final film. As reported by Variety, Tarantino confirmed, "I've written a script that I could make and that I like very, very much."
However, he made it clear that a decision on this script, or any other film project, will not come until after his theatrical endeavor. Tarantino expressed a desire to use the play as a period of self-discovery, stating his intention to "discover who I am" through the experience. Following the play's run, he plans to take time away to be with his family and "enjoy life a bit" before making any definitive choices about his return to the big screen. This suggests that even with a promising script in hand, the ultimate subject and timing of his final film remain fluid, leaving cinephiles to patiently await his next move.
