Quentin Tarantino, known for his distinctive cinematic style, recently revealed on The Graham Norton Show that he has finished writing a new script. However, this project is not destined to be his much-anticipated tenth and final film, a milestone he has frequently discussed as his retirement from directing feature films.

Instead, Tarantino is currently dedicating his time to a different artistic pursuit: the stage. His debut play, The Popinjay Cavalier, is slated for a 2027 premiere and is set to star Sacha Baron Cohen. Initially conceived as a screenplay, Tarantino realized the swashbuckling comedy, set in the 1830s, would be better suited for the theater. This commitment means his return to the director's chair for a feature film will be delayed.

Following the play, Tarantino expressed a desire to take a break and focus on personal life. "I've written a script that I really like, but I want to dedicate myself to my play and take stock of myself; then, I'll spend time with my family, enjoy life a bit, and then I'll see what I want to do," he stated, indicating a deliberate pause before any new film project.

This news follows the shelving of The Movie Critic, a project that was widely speculated to be his final film. That movie, which reportedly would have featured Brad Pitt and centered on a 1977 Los Angeles film critic named Jim Sheldon—described by Tarantino as "the Travis Bickle of film criticism"—was ultimately abandoned.

While fans await Tarantino's next original directorial work, they can look forward to a new cinematic offering that bears his writing credit. The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth, a spin-off from his 2019 hit Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, is set to debut on Netflix on December 23. This film, penned by Tarantino, was directed by David Fincher and will see Brad Pitt reprise his role as Cliff Booth, alongside a cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Carla Gugino, Scott Caan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Timothy Olyphant. It's important to note, however, that while written by Tarantino, this Fincher-directed project is not his tenth and final film as a director.
