Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, is revving its engines for a major new addition to its content lineup: a television series based on the globally popular Fast & Furious film franchise. The official greenlight comes after franchise star and executive producer Vin Diesel first teased the project's development at NBCUniversal's upfronts event in May, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

While Diesel's initial announcement suggested multiple Fast & Furious shows were in the works, Peacock later clarified that one series was actively moving forward, and now it has received a full order. The series aims to capitalize on the immense success of the film saga, which has spanned 11 movies over 25 years and grossed over $7 billion worldwide, making it one of NBCUniversal's most valuable properties.

The creative team behind the highly anticipated series is beginning to take shape. Mike Daniels, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy and the forthcoming Rockford Files remake, will serve as a writer and showrunner. Joining him is Wolfe Coleman, a writer and showrunner from 911: Lone Star. Together, they will pen the pilot episode and guide the series' creative direction.

An impressive roster of executive producers is also on board, ensuring the show maintains the spirit and scale of its cinematic predecessors. Vin Diesel will executive produce through his One Race banner, alongside Sam Vincent. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film, who are also instrumental in producing the Fast & Furious movie franchise, will executive produce. They are joined by Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan, further linking the series to the established universe. This strong connection to the film's core creative and production teams suggests a commitment to maintaining continuity and the franchise's signature blend of action and family themes.

Specific plot details and an official title for the series are currently being kept under wraps. However, the targeted 2028 premiere date is notable, as it is expected to align with the release of the next feature film in the series, Fast Forever, which is slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028. This strategic timing could allow for cross-promotion and further integrate the television series into the broader Fast & Furious narrative, offering fans an expanded universe to explore.

The launch of a Fast & Furious series on Peacock underscores the growing trend of major film franchises making the leap to streaming platforms, providing continuous engagement for fans and extending the longevity of beloved intellectual properties.
