Fans of the Fast & Furious saga have reason to celebrate as Peacock, Universal's streaming service, has given the green light to a live-action series adaptation. The news, initially reported by Deadline and confirmed by Ecranlarge, signals a major expansion for the blockbuster franchise, which has primarily resided in theaters for over two decades.

While details regarding the plot and specific characters remain under wraps, the project is moving forward with a seasoned team. Mike Daniels, known for his work on One Tree Hill and Sons of Anarchy, will serve as co-showrunner and writer for the pilot, alongside Wolfe Coleman, a writer and producer from Shades of Blue. Franchise stalwart Vin Diesel, who portrays Dominic Toretto in the films, is attached as an executive producer through his One Race banner. Chris Morgan, a key writer for many Fast & Furious films, is also on board as an executive producer.

This isn't the first time the Fast & Furious universe has ventured into television. Netflix previously hosted the animated series Fast & Furious: Spy Racers from 2019 to 2021, which focused on Tony Toretto, Dominic's younger cousin. However, a live-action series has been a more elusive goal.

Indeed, the concept of a live-action television spin-off has been discussed for some time. In 2025, Barry Hertz's book Welcome To The Family revealed that Universal had previously considered developing not one, but three live-action Fast & Furious series. Those plans were ultimately shelved, possibly due to the complex production of the upcoming eleventh film, Fast Forever.

Vin Diesel himself hinted at the franchise's television aspirations last May during an NBCUniversal programming presentation in New York, where he reportedly teased the development of multiple spin-off series. Now, at least one of those projects has officially come to fruition. The series is being produced by Universal Television.

The timing of the series' potential release is notable. While no specific premiere date has been announced, speculation points towards a 2028 debut, strategically aligning with the theatrical release of Fast Forever (also known as Fast & Furious 11), currently slated for March 2028. This would allow the streaming series to capitalize on the hype surrounding the presumed grand finale of the main film saga. As the Fast universe continues to evolve, this live-action series promises to offer new avenues for storytelling, bringing more speed, action, and, of course, family, to viewers' screens.
