The Hollywood Reporter initially broke the news regarding the release date for 'The Hole,' which promises to deliver a gripping narrative. Directed by the acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon, known for his masterful work in the thriller genre, the film is an adaptation of Hye-young Pyun's 2016 best-selling Korean novel of the same name. Christopher Chen penned the screenplay, translating the chilling story for the big screen.

'The Hole' centers on Owen, an American professor living in South Korea, portrayed by Theo James. The plot takes a dark turn following the tragic death of his wife in a car accident. As Owen grieves, his Korean mother-in-law steps in to care for him, but her presence soon unearths unsettling secrets about Owen's marriage and his past. The suspenseful journey unfolds across two distinct settings: the vibrant metropolis of Seoul, South Korea, and the academic hub of Berkeley, California.

Director Kim Jee-woon brings a formidable track record to 'The Hole,' with a filmography that includes critically praised works such as 'Cobweb,' 'Illang: The Wolf Brigade,' 'The Age of Shadows,' and the English-language action film 'The Last Stand,' starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. His expertise in crafting tension and intricate plots makes him a fitting choice for this psychological thriller.

The film's cast boasts significant talent. Theo James has recently garnered widespread acclaim for his starring role in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series 'The Gentlemen,' which is set for a third season. His feature film credits also include the 'Divergent' franchise, 'Fuze,' 'Rosemead,' and 'The Monkey.' Hoyeon rose to international stardom with her breakout performance in Netflix's global phenomenon 'Squid Game,' and has since appeared in the feature film 'Hope' and the series 'Disclaimer.'

Veteran actor Christian Slater, known for his roles in films like 'If I Had Legs I’d Kick You' and 'Blink Twice,' adds further depth to the ensemble. He is also set to appear in Amazon MGM's upcoming 'How to Rob a Bank.' Rounding out the main cast is Yeom Hye-ran, recognized for her work in the film 'No Other Choice' and popular series such as 'The Glory' and 'The Uncanny Counter.'

'The Hole' is being produced by Anthology Studios, K. Period Media, and Esmail Corp, with Department M and Medan providing financing and serving as executive producers. The film is set to face some competition on its release date, as Warner Bros. also has an untitled 'Ocean's Eleven' prequel, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper, slated for June 25, 2027.
