Godzilla is set to make his thunderous return on November 4th, but not alongside King Kong in the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse. Instead, this new Japanese installment follows up on the critically acclaimed 2023 phenomenon, "Godzilla Minus One," which grossed nearly $114 million worldwide and clinched an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Following its immense success, director Takashi Yamazaki is back at the helm for the sequel.

"Godzilla Minus Zero" is set in 1949, two years after the events of "Minus One." Japan is still reeling from the devastation of World War II and the destruction wrought by the legendary kaiju. This time, Godzilla returns bigger and stronger, and it appears he won't be alone. The latest trailer features a distinct roar, different from Godzilla's, accompanying a creature falling from a great height after what appears to be a battle against a being of equal or superior size. This intriguing detail has sparked considerable speculation among fans.

This aligns with leaked synopsis elements from February, which hinted at the presence of two kaiju. Many connoisseurs are now convinced, after hearing the distinctive cry, that Godzilla will face off against King Ghidorah. The three-headed dragon first appeared in cinema in 1964 and notably featured in 2019's "King of the Monsters." Often described as the radioactive lizard's arch-nemesis, "Minus Zero" could solidify this status, though its new appearance will likely remain a closely guarded secret until release.

An IMAX Spectacle?

A significant piece of good news for international audiences is that "Godzilla Minus Zero" will arrive in France simultaneously with its release in Japan and the United States, minimizing the risk of spoilers. The film is also poised to be a visual feast, marking the first Japanese Godzilla film (and the first Japanese film overall) to be shot in IMAX, a spectacle joyfully previewed in the latest trailer.
