The upcoming Netflix production of Pride & Prejudice is generating considerable buzz, not least for its impressive lineup of talent. Leading the ensemble as the spirited Elizabeth Bennet is Emma Corrin, known for their work in The Crown and the upcoming Nosferatu. Stepping into the formidable shoes of Mr. Darcy is Jack Lowden, whose credits include Slow Horses and Benediction.
Adding further star power to the Bennet family, Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman will portray the often-anxious Mrs. Bennet, with Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) cast as her stoic husband, Mr. Bennet. The other Bennet sisters will be brought to life by Freya Mavor (Industry) as Jane, Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper) as Lydia, and newcomers Hollie Avery and Hopey Parish in their debut roles as Kitty and Mary, respectively.
The extended cast features more familiar faces, including Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes) as the charming but duplicitous Mr. Wickham, and Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats) as the pompous Mr. Collins. Fiona Shaw, who is also slated for a role in an upcoming Sense & Sensibility rendition, will appear as the formidable Lady Catherine de Bourg. Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters) is cast as the amiable Mr. Bingley, with Siena Kelly (Black Mirror) as his discerning sister, Caroline Bingley. Rounding out key supporting roles are Liz Kingsman as Anna De Bourgh and Jasmine Blackborow as Charlotte Lucas.
Behind the camera, the series boasts an equally strong creative team. Dolly Alderton, acclaimed author of Everything I Know About Love, has penned the script for the adaptation. Directing duties fall to Euros Lyn, known for his work on Heartstopper. Lookout Point is the production house, with Lyn, Corrin, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter serving as executive producers, and Lisa Osborne as producer.
Anticipation for the series has been building since a teaser trailer was released in February, followed by the full trailer at the end of October. The narrative remains true to Jane Austen’s original, centering on Elizabeth Bennet, the second of five daughters, navigating societal pressures to marry well. Her journey intertwines with the enigmatic Mr. Darcy, while her elder sister Jane’s own romance with Mr. Bingley unfolds.
