Netflix's decision to license and release Solar Opposites Season 6 follows the strong viewership of its initial five seasons on the platform. The positive reception prompted the streamer to secure the rights for this latest installment, which originally premiered on Hulu and was, at the time, announced as the series' final outing.

Originally a Hulu exclusive, Solar Opposites quickly established its own identity, captivating viewers with its distinct blend of irreverent humor and intergalactic misadventures. Co-created by Rick and Morty alum Mike McMahan alongside Justin Roiland, the series centers on a family of aliens – Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, and Jesse – who crash-land in suburban America after their home planet, Shlorp, is destroyed. Their mission is to protect the Pupa, a powerful alien larva destined to terraform Earth into a new Shlorp, all while grappling with the absurdities of human culture. The show's sharp writing and inventive world-building, coupled with its signature 'Wall' subplot involving shrunken humans, resonated deeply with fans seeking a sci-fi comedy with a faster pace and a more overtly silly, yet often profound, family dynamic.

The series ran for six seasons on Hulu from May 2020 to October 2025, garnering critical praise for much of its run. While the show's earlier seasons were particularly well-received, its sixth season, despite bringing back core voice talent including Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, and Sean Giambrone, received a more mixed critical response. Notable guest stars in the final season included Tiffany Haddish, Kieran Culkin, Christina Hendricks, Ken Marino, Alfred Molina, and Beck Bennett.

Despite the official conclusion on Hulu, co-creator Mike McMahan hinted at future possibilities during a 2025 interview with Collider at SDCC. McMahan stated there are "a lot more stories to tell," expressing a clear desire to revisit the world of Solar Opposites. He also noted the fluid nature of animation, where "things come back in different forms in different places," suggesting that this Netflix revival might not be the absolute last fans see of the Shlorpian family.

The arrival of Solar Opposites Season 6 on Netflix in the U.S. and several international regions on October 13, 2026, offers both new viewers and long-time fans a chance to dive back into the quirky, often absurd, universe of the series, with the added intrigue of its co-creator's hopes for its continued existence beyond this current streaming debut.
