In an exclusive reveal by Deadline, new images from Paramount+'s upcoming series 'The Day' showcase Minnie Driver as DI Sylvia 'Vox' Voxley, a determined hostage negotiator thrust into a high-pressure scenario. The British drama, an adaptation of the acclaimed 2018 Belgian series 'De Dag,' is set to deliver an intense, moment-by-moment account of a bank heist gone wrong.
The premise of 'The Day' is deceptively simple yet dramatically rich: a police operation inadvertently stumbles upon a bank robbery already in progress, leading the criminals to barricade themselves inside with hostages. The entire eight-episode season unfolds over a single, critical day, focusing on Voxley's relentless efforts to de-escalate the crisis and ensure the safety of those trapped within the bank.
A unique narrative structure sets 'The Day' apart. The series begins by immersing viewers in the police's perspective as they respond to the unfolding siege. However, subsequent episodes ingeniously rewind and re-tell events through the eyes of the robbers and their captives. This shifting viewpoint is designed to continually reframe the truth, gradually piecing together the full, complex picture of what transpired leading up to the series finale.
