Fans of cinematic fantasy are in for a treat as two beloved figures from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom, are set to appear in the upcoming third season of The Gentlemen. The news, initially reported by Ecranlarge, citing The Playlist, reveals Netflix's ambitious casting choices for the Guy Ritchie-helmed series, which is currently filming in Morocco.
Wood, best known globally as Frodo Baggins, and Bloom, who captivated audiences as the elven archer Legolas, will bring their considerable talents to Ritchie's stylish criminal underworld. Their inclusion marks a significant draw for the series, which serves as a spin-off from Ritchie's 2020 film of the same name.
Beyond the Middle-earth reunion, the third season's cast is further bolstered by a mix of Ritchie veterans and acclaimed actors. Dexter Fletcher, known for his roles in Ritchie's early work like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and rapper-actor Bugzy Malone, who appeared in The Gentlemen film and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, are set to return to the Ritchie-verse. Additionally, the ever-charismatic Robert Carlyle, recognized for his iconic performances in Trainspotting and The Full Monty, joins the cast, surprisingly marking his first collaboration with Guy Ritchie. Other new additions include Bruna Marquezine (Blue Beetle), Ed Speleers (Eragon, You), and Saffron Burrows (Troy, Deep Blue Sea).
Series regulars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario are confirmed to reprise their roles, continuing to navigate the treacherous world of inherited aristocratic crime. However, one notable absence will be Daniel Ings, who has personally confirmed his departure from the Netflix series. The status of Giancarlo Esposito's character for the new season remains unclear.
Guy Ritchie, who created, co-wrote, and co-directed The Gentlemen, has found considerable success in television adaptations of his distinctive style. While his film career has seen varied fortunes, his streaming projects like Young Sherlock and MobLand have demonstrated his strong appeal on the small screen. Despite reports of a viewership dip between the first and second seasons of The Gentlemen, Netflix's swift renewal and significant investment in new talent signal strong confidence in the show's long-term potential. With filming already in progress, fans can anticipate the third season arriving on the platform as early as 2027.
