Following the success of DC Comics' more somber 'Absolute Universe,' Marvel appears to be exploring its own grim frontier. The recently unveiled Midnight Universe is a world where the existence of vampires is undeniable and widespread. Among these bloodthirsty creatures are the 'Empyres,' a horrifying variant of mutant vampires, making this new reality particularly perilous for both humans and mutants.

Crucially, these creatures possess specific vulnerabilities: decapitation, sunlight, and a familiar metallic element – adamantium. This last weakness immediately points to one of Marvel's most iconic characters: Wolverine. Given his adamantium-laced skeleton and claws, Logan is uniquely positioned to be a formidable, if not essential, weapon against the Empyres.

ScreenRant speculates that Wolverine could emerge as the Midnight Universe's equivalent of Van Helsing, a seasoned hunter who has battled these supernatural threats for generations. His extensive lifespan and inherent combat prowess, combined with his indestructible claws, make him perfectly suited to the task. This reimagining could also see the infamous Weapon X program repurposed, perhaps as an ancient organization dedicated to protecting humanity from mystical evils, with Wolverine as its ultimate operative.

The first issue of Midnight X-Men has already hinted at the escalating conflict. It suggests that Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, might be a powerful leader among the Empyres, striving to maintain a fragile peace. However, the arrival of Cardinal Stryker, tasked with exterminating Empyres in America, signals that this uneasy truce is on the brink of collapse. As war brews, the need for an unstoppable force becomes critical, likely paving the way for Wolverine's dramatic entrance.

Adding another layer of complexity is the involvement of acclaimed writer Jonathan Hickman, known for his intricate narratives and morally gray characterizations. His influence suggests that the lines between hero and villain will be blurred. When Wolverine inevitably unleashes his adamantium claws in this horrific new world, readers should be prepared for a hero whose actions might not always align with traditional heroic ideals, challenging perceptions of who the 'good guy' truly is in the Midnight Universe.
