For fans who rallied under the #SaveDaredevil banner, the news of Daredevil: Born Again's impending conclusion after its third season came as a shock. Many had eagerly anticipated the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, alongside other beloved Defenders characters. However, according to Brad Winderbaum, the series' planned three-season arc was a deliberate creative decision from the outset, echoing the structure of the original Netflix Daredevil series.

Speaking on Brandon Davis's Main Character podcast, as reported by Ecran Large, Winderbaum likened the approach to collecting books. "The plan was always to do a third season," he explained. "The plan was to finish after three, because in our opinion, the original series lasts three seasons. Born Again, three seasons. It's kind of like paperback books, you know, or collections you can fit on your shelf. They are two sets of three volumes, and then we're going to take a break and think about what's next."

While this explanation offers a creative rationale, Winderbaum also hinted at another, more practical factor: audience engagement. He suggested that while online campaigns like #SaveDaredevil are valuable for expressing passion, actual viewership numbers hold significant sway in determining a project's longevity and future. Recalling his own efforts to advocate for the Wonder Man series, Winderbaum drew a direct parallel to the Daredevil fandom.

"The internet isn't what it used to be a few years ago, when you could organize a campaign and get something produced," Winderbaum stated. He elaborated, "#SaveDaredevil is great, but we also need #WatchDaredevil." He underscored the tangible impact of audience metrics, confirming that viewing figures are his most powerful tool within the studio. "The biggest leverage I have, and I say it all the time, is the viewership numbers," Winderbaum emphasized. "That's what people are looking for, that's where I find my power to do something or not. I just want people to watch the series."

This clarification suggests that while the current iteration of Daredevil: Born Again is set to conclude, the door isn't entirely closed on future adventures for the Man Without Fear. However, any potential third trilogy or continuation would undoubtedly hinge on strong audience performance for the upcoming final season. Fans looking to ensure more of Matt Murdock on screen will need to actively tune in when Daredevil: Born Again's third and final season arrives, currently anticipated around 2027.
