Known for his versatile performances and extensive work in independent film, Mark Duplass is taking on a key role in 'Victoria,' a new limited series from Hulu. He will portray William Holbrook, a brilliant UC Berkeley professor whose pioneering work in gene editing has made him a prominent figure in Silicon Valley. Holbrook is also described as a dedicated mentor, earning the loyalty of his students.
The series, an erotic thriller, delves into the cutthroat world of San Francisco's elite. It centers on Maxine Tao, played by Li Jun Li, a gifted con artist who finds herself entangled in a dangerous web of power, luxury, and the crosshairs of a mysterious, seductive killer who holds her secrets. Maxine's journey into the high-stakes realm of venture capital begins after a chance encounter presents her with the grift of a lifetime.
Diane Lane is also part of the compelling ensemble, cast as Lee Calloway. Calloway is depicted as a shrewd venture capitalist, accustomed to success and unwilling to let anyone obstruct her path to victory.
'Victoria' is the brainchild of Christy Hall, who serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. Hall is known for her work on 'I Am Not Okay with This.' Geeta Vasant Patel, whose directing credits include 'Lanterns' and 'Under the Bridge,' is set to direct the pilot episode and will also executive produce. Additional executive producers include Lilly Burns, Elise Henderson, and Tony Hernandez for Counterpart Studios, with Li Jun Li also serving as a co-producer. The project hails from Onyx Collective and Counterpart Studios.
Duplass brings a wealth of experience to the series, having garnered Emmy nominations for his role in Apple TV+'s 'The Morning Show.' He also co-created and starred in the acclaimed HBO series 'Togetherness' with his brother, Jay Duplass, and recently appeared in the liminal space horror film 'Backrooms.' His addition to 'Victoria' signals a strong creative team and a promising new thriller for the streaming platform.
