The upcoming film, simply titled Violet, is poised to be one of the most anticipated packages at the American Film Market (AFM). It brings together a formidable lineup both in front of and behind the camera, with its unique premise exploring the digital afterlife of relationships.
Danny Ramirez is cast as Sean, a man attempting to rebuild his life two years after the sudden death of his fiancée, Violet, played by Suki Waterhouse. His journey towards healing leads him to find new love with his childhood friend, Kate, portrayed by Lili Reinhart. However, their fresh start takes a chilling turn when Sean and Kate move into the home Sean once shared with Violet. Sean begins receiving unsettling text messages from someone—or something—claiming to be his deceased ex. The narrative delves into the pervasive nature of constant connectivity, raising questions about whether digital footprints ever truly allow an ex to let go.
Directing Violet is Patrick Brice, a filmmaker well-regarded in the horror genre for his work on the Creep franchise, which he co-wrote with Mark Duplass. Brice's other credits include the Sundance entry The Overnight and the Netflix horror feature There's Someone Inside Your House. The screenplay for Violet was penned by Nick Antosca and Alana B. Lytle, adapted from Antosca's short story "Ghostfish." Antosca recently saw significant box office success with his adaptation of Colleen Hoover's Verity, and is also known for creating the horror anthology series Channel Zero and Hulu's Emmy-winning The Act.
SK Global and Generator Entertainment are set to produce and finance Violet, with FilmNation Entertainment handling both domestic and international sales at the AFM. Production for this intriguing horror project is slated to begin in spring 2027. The cast boasts an impressive array of talent, with Lili Reinhart known for Riverdale and The Love Hypothesis, and Danny Ramirez recognized for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Suki Waterhouse has garnered acclaim for Daisy Jones & The Six, while veteran actor Mark Duplass is an Emmy winner for Wild Wild Country and a nominee for The Morning Show. Lukas Gage recently appeared in Smile 2 and Road House, further solidifying his presence in genre films.
With a strong creative team and a timely, unsettling premise, Violet is shaping up to be a significant entry in the psychosexual horror landscape.
