Michelle Keegan, who captivated audiences as Maya Stern in the global Netflix sensation Fool Me Once, is set to star in another twist-filled adaptation from bestselling author Harlan Coben. The latest project, The Woods, has concluded filming, with Quay Street Productions confirming the wrap via social media.
Keegan's return to the Coben universe marks a significant reunion, following the immense popularity of Fool Me Once, which quickly ascended Netflix's charts earlier this year. Her compelling performance in the previous series undoubtedly played a role in her casting for The Woods, a series Coben himself describes as "haunting and very personal." He added, "It has everything you expect from us — twisty, turning, gasp-inducing — but at the core is a story of old love and yearning."
The Woods is based on Coben's 2007 novel of the same name and sees him re-team with writer Danny Brocklehurst, who previously worked on Fool Me Once. The narrative centers on a barrister grappling with the belief that his sister, presumed dead two decades prior, may still be alive. This intriguing logline promises the signature blend of family drama, unresolved mysteries, and shocking revelations that Coben's fans have come to expect.
Joining Keegan in the cast are a collection of talented actors, including Tom Bateman, Mandeep Dhillon (MobLand), Pearce Quigley (Small Prophets), and Rade Sherbedgia (Slow Horses). Their collective talent is expected to bring Coben's intricate plot and complex characters to life on screen.
While many of Coben's Netflix adaptations have traditionally premiered on January 1, The Woods is set to break this pattern. The New Year's Day slot in 2027 will instead be occupied by The Twin, a miniseries starring Jamie Dornan, based on Kristoffer Metcalfe's 2019 novel. Fans will have to wait until later in 2027 for The Woods to make its debut. This news comes as Coben continues his prolific partnership with Netflix, with another major project, a series based on his popular Myron Bolitar character and starring KJ Apa, also in development and aiming for a Bosch and Reacher-esque long-form success. With filming now complete, anticipation for The Woods will only grow as its 2027 release draws closer.
