Actress Mandy Moore is pulling out all the stops to generate buzz for her new Hulu series, The Land, by offering a description that's sure to capture the attention of TV fans. In a recent interview with Variety, Moore characterized the upcoming drama as "Friday Night Lights and Succession all kind of rolled into one," a pitch that immediately signals a blend of intense sports action and complex family dynamics.

The Land delves into the world of the Durkin family, owners of the NFL's Cleveland Browns. The series explores the intricate web of drama that unfolds both on and off the field, offering a behind-the-scenes look at professional football. Christopher Meloni, known for his role in Law & Order: SVU, steps into the shoes of the Browns' coach, while William H. Macy of Shameless fame portrays the team owner, Hank Durkin. Moore herself is set to play Lauren Durkin, Hank's ambitious daughter.

Discussing her role, Moore expressed enthusiasm for filming outside Los Angeles and for the opportunity to portray a complex character. "I get to play an absolute b****," Moore revealed, "a woman in a man’s world who her entire life she’s been gunning for this one job and will do absolutely anything and breathes this air of sort of desperation and entitlement. It’s so fun to play someone like so wholly different from who I am."

To prepare for her role and gain insight into the NFL, Moore drew inspiration from an unexpected source. "I had some fantastic meetings with some incredible women that are in similar roles at different organizations at the NFL," she explained. "I joked I felt like Taylor Swift, where I was like, ‘Oh, I got to learn all about this.’ I mean, it’s different when your boyfriend-slash-husband is like a player, but I truly knew nothing."

The series comes from creator Dan Fogelman, a familiar collaborator for Moore, having previously worked together on the acclaimed series This Is Us and Disney's Tangled. Fogelman's impressive track record includes 11 Emmy Award nominations for Paradise, Only Murders in the Building, and This Is Us, setting high expectations for The Land.

A first glimpse of The Land was unveiled at the 2026 Disney Upfront event in May, teasing a series rich with the excitement of sports and the compelling intricacies of behind-the-scenes power plays. While no official release date has been announced, The Land is anticipated to premiere on Hulu in early 2027.
