As reported by EcranLarge.com, the new promotional materials for The Rings of Power Season 3 intensify the anticipation for Sauron's growing might. Two striking posters have been released, showcasing the dark lord and his loyal retinue against the desolate, fiery landscapes of Mordor, a region transformed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Doom in the first season.
One poster features Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, alongside his armored guards, standing before a blazing inferno that evokes the oppressive atmosphere of his domain. The second visual isolates what appears to be the leader of these new servants, mounted on an armored steed, silhouetted against a menacing sky with Mount Doom looming in the background. These images confirm the show's commitment to exploring the origins of some of Middle-earth's most terrifying figures.
The series is set to delve deeper into the Second Age, chronicling Sauron's military ascent and the gradual transformation of his human followers into the dreaded Ringwraiths. The showrunners have introduced the specific term 'Nazgnagôl' to describe these initial mortal servants. This distinction is crucial, as they have not yet fully succumbed to the Rings' corrupting influence to become the spectral beings known as Nazgûl. Showrunner J.D. Payne elaborated on this terminology in an interview with Empire magazine in 2026.
"The word 'Nazgûl' means 'Ringwraith' in the Black Speech of Mordor. But before they were wraiths, we know they were just men," Payne explained. "So we were able to deduce in Black Speech that 'nagôl' could mean 'servant.' 'Nazgnagôl' therefore literally means 'servant of the Ring.'"
Season 3 promises to accelerate the narrative with a multi-year time jump, immersing viewers in the heart of the war between the Elves and Sauron. The central conflict will revolve around Sauron's relentless pursuit to forge the One Ring, a pivotal moment intended to secure his dominance over the free peoples of Middle-earth. The main cast is slated to return, including Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Durin IV, Markella Kavenagh as Nori, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, and Daniel Weyman as Gandalf.
Fans won't have to wait long to see these events unfold, as Amazon Prime Video has outlined a dense release schedule for the third season. The first four episodes will drop simultaneously on November 11, 2026, followed by episodes 5 and 6 on November 18, 2026. The season will conclude with a two-episode finale, consisting of episodes 7 and 8, on November 25, 2026.
