Following his iconic roles as Neo in Matrix and John Wick in the eponymous action saga, Keanu Reeves is gearing up to embody a new hero in Kill Current. This espionage thriller is an adaptation of Oliver Lowe's novel, which is slated for publication in May 2027. Adding to the intrigue, the actor will also be at the helm of this ambitious project as a producer.

Keanu Reeves Embarks on a New Espionage Mission

According to Deadline, Reeves will play Jon Hendricks in Kill Current, a former CIA agent turned teacher who is forced back into action when one of his students disappears during an operation. Based on Oliver Lowe's book synopsis, Hendricks will confront "technology that no government can explain, but all covet: a hardware component not supposed to exist for another decade."

The plot will span multiple countries, from Shanghai to Berlin and Costa Rica. This high-stakes espionage mission is expected to blend thriller elements with science fiction, a genre particularly familiar to Keanu Reeves, who has made muscular action and solitary characters his specialty.

First look at Kill Current

As a bonus, here are the first images from Kill Current. They reveal a silhouette — likely Jon Hendricks — wandering through a mysterious server room that appears to extend infinitely. This initial teaser is reminiscent of the Matrix universe, as seen above.

The Actor Will Produce the Thriller Kill Current

Keanu Reeves won't just star in Kill Current; he will also produce the film alongside his partner, Alexandra Grant, through their company, Two Dragonflies. The couple will be joined by The Arena studio, founded by Erik Feig and specializing in action films.

Reeves expressed his eagerness to launch this new project, telling Deadline: "I am thrilled and grateful to be able to develop the character of Jon Hendricks with these wonderful collaborators," adding, "This project marks the launch of Two Dragonflies, a company I share with my partner."

Alexandra Grant also expressed her delight at this first collaboration with The Arena, stating that the adaptation of Kill Current aligns with the artistic direction she and Keanu Reeves envision for their company. Currently, no director or additional cast members have been announced.
