Now, twenty years later, King is back in the director's chair for Black Sheeps. He's not alone in his return, as actor Nathan Meister, who led the cast of the original, is also confirmed to reprise his role.

The plot for Black Sheeps centers on a young scientist convinced that a dangerous new pathogen is threatening the population. His investigation leads him back to the remote countryside where the events of the first Black Sheep unfolded. The acclaimed New Zealand special effects company Wētā Workshop, known for its work on the original, is also returning to craft the film's unique creatures. The recently released first image, while not revealing much, assures fans that mutant sheep will once again be a central, terrifying element.

Black Sheeps is slated to premiere at the Sitges Film Festival, where it hopes to secure a distributor. The landscape of film distribution has shifted considerably since the original's DVD heyday, and it remains to be seen which streaming service or theatrical distributor will pick up this long-awaited, woolly sequel.
