Creator Erin Foster is ready to delve deeper into the world of her Jewish romantic-comedy, 'Nobody Wants This,' should Netflix greenlight a fourth season. In a recent interview with Parade, Foster articulated her belief that there's a wealth of untapped stories, particularly concerning the unique experiences of older couples entering marriage and starting families.
“There’s those next steps as people who are not in their 20s, getting married and you’re starting off already kind of behind everyone else,” Foster explained, drawing from her own life experience of marrying at 37. She firmly stated, “So, yeah, I do think that there’s more story to tell.”
However, Foster also conveyed a level-headed perspective on the unpredictable nature of television renewals. She stressed her philosophy of not becoming too invested in the final decision, preferring to let audience demand guide the show's future. “I’m also someone who doesn’t get too attached to the outcome and is sort of fluid about allowing sort of the market to tell us what they want from us,” she told Parade. Her priority is to maintain quality and audience engagement, adding, “I never want to have a show that goes on longer than people want to see it. I’d rather people want more than want less.”
'Nobody Wants This' draws inspiration from Foster’s own relationship with her music executive husband, Simon Tikhman. The series stars Kristen Bell as Joanne Williams, an agnostic podcaster who finds herself in an unexpected romance with Rabbi Noah Roklov, played by Adam Brody. Their relationship navigates cultural and familial complexities as Joanne considers converting to Judaism.
Foster's comments regarding a potential fourth season come amidst her recent engagement in public discourse surrounding the show's cast. She recently addressed Brody's public support for 'Free Palestine,' acknowledging a difference in opinion while affirming her affection for the actor. “While I love Adam, I also disagree with him. And that’s okay,” she stated, highlighting her willingness to engage with varying viewpoints.
