Drake had been teasing the "FOMO" project on social media since August, initially sharing images of his family alongside the caption "FOMO 2026," followed by a mysterious CD cover titled "Fear of Missing Out." This cryptic rollout led fans to speculate wildly, pondering whether the offering might be a new album, a concert tour, or a music video.
The artist himself cleared up the ambiguity on Saturday, announcing via social media that "FOMO" is definitively "a not so short film directed and scored by the family." This revelation shifts the project firmly into the cinematic realm.
Accompanying the announcement was a brief clip featuring Drake at the helm of a vibrant neon yellow speedboat. A female voiceover can be heard posing a philosophical question: "What if I told you there were two versions of your life. In one, you avoid risk and withhold love. You feel like you’ve gone missing from yourself. You look for something you can’t find. In the other version of your life… you find it." This snippet hints at themes of self-discovery and embracing risk within the film.
The "Fear of Missing Out" film is slated for release on September 15.
This isn't the first time Drake has employed an unconventional approach to project reveals. Earlier this year, he concealed the launch date for his Iceman trilogy within a massive block of ice placed in a Toronto parking lot. Fans went to great lengths, even using sledgehammers and blowtorches, to extract the hidden information, demonstrating Drake's flair for dramatic and interactive marketing.
