Fans of the masked mallard can rejoice as Drake Mallard, the crime-fighting alter-ego of Darkwing Duck, prepares to "get dangerous" once more for a new generation. Mark Hamill will lend his considerable vocal talents to the titular character, bringing a fresh take to the beloved hero. He's joined by an ensemble of well-known actors, with Seth Rogen voicing Darkwing's loyal sidekick Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan stepping into the role of his adopted daughter Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar as the rebellious teen Duckie.
The new series plunges Darkwing Duck into a unique predicament: he's been trapped for 35 years in an alternate world where his heroic exploits are completely unknown. It's the arrival of Duckie, a teen who does know his heroic past, that pulls this ego-fueled vigilante back into the fray. Together, this unlikely duo will confront classic adversaries like Negaduck and Megavolt, while also reuniting with allies such as Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana, all in a bid to save the entire universe.
The project is helmed by executive producers Sean Tretta, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, and Borja Peña Gorostegui. The development of the new series has also seen consultation from Tad Stones, the creator of the original 1990s cartoon, ensuring a connection to its roots. Stones expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series." He further praised the new direction, noting, "The new creative team has certainly amped up the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart."
Additional voice cast members include Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.
The return to the world of Darkwing Duck was first announced as being in development back in 2020, originating from Disney Branded Television and Point Grey Pictures. Produced by Disney Television Animation, the original Darkwing Duck ran for 91 episodes from 1991 to 1995 across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication. The character has also made appearances in Disney comic books and, more recently, in the latest iteration of DuckTales.
