Carol Choi's appointment comes as no surprise to those familiar with her two decades of dedicated service within the Mouse House. Currently serving as Executive Vice President of The Walt Disney Company APAC, she has been instrumental in shaping the company's strategy across its diverse territories. Her new mandate will see her overseeing all aspects of Disney Entertainment's robust operations, spanning Greater China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. This includes the strategic direction of studio operations, the burgeoning Disney+ platform, the creation of locally produced original content, content sales, media networks, and consumer products.

Choi's impressive track record includes spearheading the region's studio operations, refining its original content strategy, and developing integrated marketing initiatives. Earlier in her career, she successfully managed Disney’s businesses in Japan and Korea as managing director and held various senior leadership positions in Greater China. Her involvement was pivotal in the successful launch and subsequent growth of Disney+ in the region, alongside expanding the studio business and cultivating vital partnerships with top creators and talent across Asia Pacific.

Alan Bergman, Chair of Disney Entertainment, Studios, and Jimmy Pitaro, Chair of ESPN, praised Choi’s capabilities, noting, "Carol Choi is a proven Disney leader with broad operating experience, strong creative instincts, and a deep understanding of the region, and she is the perfect person to lead the organization into its next chapter."

The transition marks the end of an era for Luke Kang, who departs Disney after a distinguished 16-year tenure. Kang joined Disney in 2011, initially leading its Korea operation as managing director, before expanding his influence to Greater China and North Asia. During his time, he was a key architect in driving Disney’s growth through strategic localization efforts, innovative digital initiatives, and fostering stronger connections with consumers. As APAC president, he oversaw substantial growth across the region's markets and brands, masterminded the successful rollout of Disney+ and other new ventures, and significantly invested in creative projects, including a slate of original content.

Choi herself acknowledged the foundation laid by her predecessor. "I am honored to take on this role and grateful to Luke for the strong foundation he has built," she remarked. "Asia Pacific is home to some of the world’s most passionate fans and dynamic creative communities. I look forward to working with our teams and partners to bring exceptional stories and experiences to audiences, grow our businesses, and deepen Disney’s connection with fans across the region."

This leadership change underscores Disney's strategic focus on the Asia Pacific region, a market known for its unique cultural landscapes and immense potential for entertainment consumption. With Choi at the helm, Disney is poised to continue its aggressive expansion and localization efforts, ensuring its beloved stories and characters resonate deeply with audiences from Tokyo to Sydney.
