The casting, initially reported by Deadline, sees Jericho step into the sequined robes of one of professional wrestling's earliest and most impactful mainstream celebrities. Gorgeous George, known for his extravagant persona, audacious swagger, and unparalleled self-promotional skills, famously captivated and influenced a young Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay.

Jericho, a veteran of both WWE and AEW, where he continues to perform occasionally, is a natural fit for the role. His own career has been defined by a larger-than-life stage presence and a knack for captivating audiences, mirroring the very qualities that made Gorgeous George a sensation. Audiences will first see Jericho, complete with signature curls, in the series' fourth episode.

'The Greatest' aims to offer a comprehensive look at Ali's journey, exploring not only his well-documented triumphs and challenges inside and outside the ring but also more intimate moments away from the public eye. The series promises to portray the man behind the icon – a husband, father, brother, and son.

Leading the cast as Muhammad Ali is Jaalen Best. He is joined by a talented ensemble that includes Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier as Ali's parents, Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr. and Odessa “Bird” Clay. Amin Joseph portrays Ali’s rival and heavyweight champion Sonny Liston, while Giovanni Ribisi takes on the role of Angelo Dundee. In a recurring capacity, Michael Ealy will appear as the influential civil rights activist Malcolm X.

Ben Watkins serves as the series' creator, executive producer, and writer. This project marks the first authorized scripted series about Ali's life, benefiting from the involvement of Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali, who also executive produces. Other executive producers include Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Shawn Carter, Polygram Entertainment, and Grace: A Storytelling Company.

Beyond the wrestling ring, Jericho has been expanding his acting portfolio with recent appearances in CBS’s 'Tracker' and Apple TV’s 'Margo’s Got Money Troubles'. Fans can also anticipate his role in the second season of 'Dexter: Resurrection', premiering October 30 on Paramount+, and the horror film 'Dead of Night', set for a limited theatrical release on November 13.
