For the three-month period ending September 30, AMC Theatres reported a staggering total revenue of $1.71 billion, marking a substantial 31.6% increase from $1.30 billion in the same period last year. This figure surpasses all previous records, including the $1.60 billion set in the second quarter of 2026, and significantly eclipses pre-COVID highs from 2019 when 'Avengers: Endgame' dominated the box office.
Beyond just revenue, the company also returned to profitability, posting a net income of $109.3 million. This stands in stark contrast to a $298.2 million net loss in the third quarter of 2025, translating to earnings per share of 12 cents, a considerable turnaround from the prior year's loss of 58 cents per share.
The resurgence is largely credited to a powerhouse summer at the box office, spearheaded by two colossal hits. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' became the third-highest-grossing movie in history, raking in an astounding $2.5 billion worldwide, while Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' contributed an impressive $1.8 billion. These blockbusters, combined with a rising popularity of premium large formats and the continued success of AMC's A-List subscription service, fueled the record-breaking results.
AMC CEO Adam Aron celebrated the milestone, stating, "In recent years, where other key players in our industry collapsed, at AMC we repeatedly instead have talked about recovery. Today, we can finally say that AMC has recovered." He further emphasized the company's future ambitions, adding, "Mere survival was never the goal. Our goal ultimately was to thrive, and that is exactly and precisely where our focus now lies."
Both ticket and concession sales saw substantial boosts. Ticket revenue climbed to $954.5 million, a 33% increase year-over-year, while food and beverage revenue soared by 30% to $589.5 million. This indicates that audiences are not only returning to cinemas but are also indulging more in the full movie-going experience. The overall domestic theatrical revenue has already surpassed $8 billion this year, a benchmark reached much earlier than in the previous year.
The positive momentum is expected to continue, with Aron expressing strong optimism for the remainder of the year. He anticipates that upcoming tentpole releases such as 'Avengers: Doomsday,' 'Dune: Part III,' and 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' will propel the domestic and global box office to their highest full-year levels in seven years. "We could not be more enthusiastic about AMC’s prospects as this year draws to a triumphant close," Aron concluded.
