Irish actor Andrew Scott, known for his nuanced and often intense roles following his breakout as the 'Hot Priest' in 'Fleabag,' continues to push boundaries with 'Elsinore.' The film sees Scott stepping into the shoes of Ian Charleson, the celebrated British actor best known for 'Chariots of Fire.' Charleson's poignant story unfolds as he pursued his dream of playing Hamlet at the National Theatre in 1989, all while secretly grappling with complications from HIV.

'Elsinore' has already garnered significant buzz, winning over audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Critics, including IndieWire’s Anne Thompson, have praised Scott's performance as a potential awards contender, highlighting his ability to delve deep into complex characters.

For Scott, portraying Charleson presented a unique challenge, despite his own extensive experience with the role of Hamlet. Having performed a nearly four-hour version of the Shakespearean tragedy eight times a week, Scott shared with IndieWire at the Telluride Film Festival, "Once you play that part, everything else is a walk in the park. That’s the great training of it." However, embodying Charleson's specific experience required him to unlearn his own interpretations.

Scott reflected on the difficulty of divorcing his personal understanding of Hamlet from Charleson's reality: "That was difficult to unlearn, what my version of it would be. And to try and imagine when you’re talking about ‘to be or not to be, to live or to die,’ when you feel like it could be a matter of weeks or months before that really is ‘the undiscovered country from which no traveler returns.’" This deep immersion promises a performance rich with emotional depth.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast alongside Scott, including Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Matthew Beard, Joe Locke, Monica Dolan, Georgie Glen, Sadie Soverall, Adeel Akhtar, Dickie Beau, Kadiff Kirwan, Juliet Stevenson, and Peter Mullan.

Focus Features is slated to release 'Elsinore' in theaters on Friday, November 20.
