Filmmaker Andrew Haigh, known for his critically lauded works like All of Us Strangers and 45 Years, is set to captivate audiences once again with A Long Winter. The newly released trailer provides a first look at the period drama, which transports viewers to the remote, snow-dusted Colorado mountains of the early 1950s. The narrative centers on a family bracing themselves for the harsh realities of an impending winter, a premise that promises the intimate character study and atmospheric depth characteristic of Haigh's previous films.

The ensemble cast features a mix of established talent and rising stars. Fred Hechinger, known for his roles in The White Lotus and Fear Street, leads alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who recently garnered widespread acclaim for his performance in The Bear. They are joined by Caitríona Balfe, celebrated for Outlander and Belfast, and Kit Connor, a breakout star from Heartstopper. D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai also features in the drama.

A Long Winter is based on a short story by the revered Irish author Colm Tóibín, whose literary works often explore themes of memory, displacement, and the complexities of human relationships. Haigh's adaptation is expected to bring a distinctive cinematic interpretation to Tóibín's poignant storytelling.

The film has already garnered attention through its screenings at prestigious events such as the Telluride, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals, building anticipation ahead of its wider release. Produced by Tristan Goligher for The Bureau, alongside Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev for Nomadic Pictures, and Michael Elliott, the project boasts strong creative backing. Mubi, which also co-financed the film with Film4, is orchestrating its global distribution.

Audiences in the UK and Ireland can mark their calendars for January 15, while those in the U.S. and Canada will see the film arrive on January 22. Subsequent releases are planned for Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Latin America on February 18. Given Haigh's track record, which includes BAFTA nominations for All of Us Strangers and an Oscar nomination for Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years, A Long Winter is poised to be a significant entry in the upcoming film season.
