Director Jeremy Saulnier, known for his uniquely visceral and tension-filled thrillers, is set to return to the big screen with Slayground, and distributor A24 has just dropped the first official trailer. The reveal comes after a meticulously crafted, mysterious marketing campaign that began with the launch of RunLikeHell.com in mid-September. The website featured a looping surveillance video from what appeared to be a horror escape room or haunted attraction, complete with a countdown timer set to expire on October 20.

Leading up to the trailer's release, A24 teased audiences with an unsettling behind-the-scenes video showcasing the horror house's macabre props and masked figures, followed by a series of promotional posters for the 'game.' A final poster, released just 24 hours before the trailer, bore the chilling tagline, "Zero days since the last homicide," building anticipation for the full reveal.

The Slayground trailer wastes no time plunging viewers into its brutal and bizarre world. It introduces Michael "Metal Mike" Graves, played by Cory Michael Smith, an actor specializing in thrill rides, who awakens in the titular haunted attraction. Surrounded by the corpses of his colleagues and with no memory of how they got there, Graves becomes the sole survivor of a mass killing. As a statewide manhunt ensues, he races against time to uncover the truth, even as the trail seems to lead back to him. The trailer is dynamic, promising high-octane tension and exhilarating chase sequences, a hallmark of Saulnier's previous work.

While the trailer is fast-paced, it also hints at a deeper, potentially non-linear narrative structure, where present and past events gradually converge as Graves pieces together his memories. The presence of Imogen Poots' character, featured in a quasi-resurrection scene, suggests a possible mystical element at play, adding another layer of intrigue to the thriller. Given Saulnier's penchant for unflinching realism, it wouldn't be surprising if Slayground delves into the harrowing details of the initial massacre with extreme violence.

Beyond Cory Michael Smith and Imogen Poots, the film boasts a strong supporting cast. Chase Sui Wonders from The Studio, Sophie Wilde of Talk to Me fame, James Badge Dale from 24, Young Mazino (Beef, The Last of Us) as a police officer, and Stephen Root (Barry, Widow's Bay) are all set to appear. Notably, Macon Blair, a frequent collaborator with Saulnier since his debut feature Murder Party, also takes on a supporting role.

Slayground is slated for release in the United States on January 29, 2027, with a French theatrical debut following shortly after on February 10.
